There's still time to have your say...
Good evening everyone,

As promised, we want to update you on the progress of this new DA for a large-scale, two level commercial driving range and entertainment complex on the former (recreational open space zoned) golf course land.

We also want to ask for your support to keep SNLGC going. After seven years our job is still not done, but we do need your help.

As far as the DA goes, Council has reviewed the application in detail and issued a comprehensive 5 page information request due for return no later than 24 November. It's important to note that, under their 'Code Assessable' process, once this response comes back (which could even be earlier than the deadline) a decision must be made within 20 days. In addition, due to the importance of and interest in this matter, they have decided to submit the response for 'peer review', which also has to be completed within the 20 day time frame.

Notwithstanding the fact that Council has issued their information request and that there is no formal 'community consultation' under the process this time, we still strongly believe it is important for you to have your say by writing to council@moretonbay.qld.gov.au and quoting DA/2025/3488. If you've already made a submission, thank you. How about asking family, friends or neighbours to add their voice?

At the time of writing, there are over 130 submissions on the DA Tracker,  with well over 95% against the proposal. We believe there could be more, as none have been uploaded since mid September.

If needing help with your submission, you can view the DA, all the attachments, submissions, Council's Information request and track progress at: https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/Services/Building-Development/DA-Tracker/11157444

Council's Information request is thorough, in our view and covers many of the points raised in our earlier note to you. These include traffic, noise, lighting, the 'scale' of the development, pedestrian access, the removal of vegetation and habitat.

Many of the submissions have also highlighted the above concerns, which hopefully means Council is in tune with public sentiment. One recent submission, from the Mango Hill Progress Association, takes a slightly different approach, and can be accessed here:

We hope there is enough information available for you to craft your submission.

Finally, to our request for help. Running a not for profit group such as Save North Lakes Golf Course (Inc) incurs certain ongoing costs including insurance, web services etc. It is now several years since we last conducted any formal fund raising and our current income from recycling, plus the occasional one-off or ongoing donation is unfortunately not sufficient for us to remain viable. Your committee (and we hope the majority of the community) feel very much that, even after 7 years, our job is not done yet.

So, how can you help? If anyone is able to volunteer to help with fundraising we'd love to hear from you. If anyone is able to make a one-off donation, or even a small ongoing contribution, that would also be very much appreciated. Recycling is also still set up - and waiting for your bottles and cans. Please have a think about it - we're very much open to ideas.
