Last Minute Objection Tips
Hello everyone,

As we have moved around the community in the past few days we've come across several people who want to object, quite strongly in most cases, but are either not sure exactly what to say or how much to include. To help you out, here are our 'Top 5' Objection Points:

1. Retirement facilities of any kind are starkly inconsistent with the intention for the land in the Development Control Plan (the award-winning 'Master Plan for North Lakes). Explicitly ‘prohibited’ uses include retirement village, nursing home and hospital! The Development Control Plan has not been challenged in over 20 years and just because the golf course operator decides to sell (which is his right) and a Developer sees an opportunity is no reason to change it now.
2. The development would mean a permanent loss of the flattest, most accessible, highest sitting Open Space land on the golf course to private retirement facilities. This is only Stage 1.
3. The development would permanently break the green linear park and wildlife 'corridor' integral to the design of North Lakes. This runs from Lake Eden through the golf course to Deception Bay and eventually to Hays Inlet. It's also the reason why most of our stormwater drains under the golf course. It's why a golf course was put there in the first place!
4. The impact on traffic in North Lakes, both during the five year construction phase and afterwards, would be diabolical. Apart from Diamond Jubilee, Endeavour and Discovery (none of which lead directly to the golf course anyway) all the other roads are narrow, with chicanes or speedbumps throughout and clearly not designed to take any more traffic than they already do!
5. The proposed development sites are well known koala habitat. There is clearly potential for displacement and threats to established flora and fauna buffers. The Developers say they will re-plant habitat in several areas, but where do the koalas and other wildlife go for the next 20 years?

Please remember a properly made objection relates to ensuring that you include your correct name, email, full address details and submit before on or before 2 June 2023. The reasons for your objection do not deem it properly made or not.

All reasons for objecting are valid, however try and make your objection personal to you and your own experience. Especially if you live close to the development zones.
