There have been a couple of key developments in the last week and we are looking for your help.
1. Yesterday Friday 14th April 2023, VRG returned all requested information to Moreton Bay Regional Council which means the Development Application (DA) will now move to the community objection stage. We expect “public notification” signs to go up on the course and letters sent to adjacent residents early next week. We will let you know when objections are formally open and how to submit these.
We have briefly reviewed the new documents submitted by VRG to Council and we note the following:
- It is worse than we imagined!!
- The unused (undevelopable) balance of the open space land is being offered to council to be held in trust, on the condition that the council fully maintain it and waive the infrastructure charges for 250 x retirement units and 120 bed aged care on over 30,000m2. Our calculations have this value of $10.205M !!!!
- So our view is VRG are asking ratepayers to pay them $10.205M for some waterways and low lying flood prone land which has little to no access, while VRG concrete over all the elevated, flat and easily accessible open space land - meaning that land is rezoned to private units!!! This is crazy!
- The huge parcel of land (Lot 2) where the school was proposed last year (south of Diamond Jubilee) has been retained by VRG meaning more development could be proposed in this area in the future! The traffic impact alone of any development here would be a nightmare for residents trying to get out of NL in the mornings!
- More to come as we keep reviewing.
- SNLGC will be submitting objections written by our town planner and solicitors.
- We will need each and every person to assist us by submitting an objection. We will help to make this as easy as possible.
Your say will be crucial if we are to defeat this abominable proposal!
- Please take the time to click on the below link to look at the new documents submitted yesterday:
2. Also, we recently became aware of proposed amendments to Queensland State legislation that will REMOVE the protections provided by our DCP.
The amendments are proposed to be RETROSPECTIVE which means that the DCP will no longer protect North Lakes open space golf course land from VRG/JH North Lakes’ horrible infill development proposal. This will specifically remove the protection that hundreds of residents specifically relied upon over the last 20+ years when purchasing their homes and land in North Lakes.
The “consultation period” is only open until 5 May 2023 so please take action NOW:
iii) email Steven Miles MP (Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics Infrastructure): Deputy.Premier@ministerial.qld.gov.au
iv) Email Jarrod Bleijie, MP, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Shadow Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Shadow Minister for Olympic and Paralympic Infrastructure and Jobs: kawana@parliament.qld.gov.au
This fight has now come full circle, and is again a political battlefield. Politicians ought to respond to and represent their constituents, so please take action by letting your voice be heard now… and spread the word to your friends and neighbours who may not be on social media!
An example survey comment is below:
The DCP amendment will significantly adversely affect residents in North Lakes 4509 whose suburb is under threat of infill development by JH North Lakes (the judicial decision cited in the consultation paper). Presently the DCP has been relied upon by hundreds of residents to protect the suburb’s open space land (golf course) from development. It is fundamentally inappropriate for the legislature to retrospectively reduce residents’ protections provided by the DCP and thereby circumvent the judicial decision.
Finally, please keep an eye on our website: at http://www.savenorthlakes.com.au for more updates. If you haven't already done so, register to receive updates. We will have new corflute signs available soon and there are still some of the original ones left. There are also lots of great polo shirts, stickers and hats available.
